WEST DARLING ARTS

Eddy Harris

Eddy Harris is an Aboriginal Elder, artist & carver of the Barkandji tribe, Wilcannia NSW. As a child Eddy would use sticks to draw pictures in the burnt red sand which coated everything in his hometown of Wilcannia. Eddy’s art communicates his connection to river & country across the mediums of canvas, bark, emu eggs & wood carvings. Eddy’s art showcases his passion for telling stories about his people and promotes the continuation of his cultural practices. He describes: “The land is very important to us. The feelings that you get from country, knowing our ancestors lived and were buried there, you feel their spirits with you.”
