BROKEN HILL HERITAGE RESIDENCIES
Artist Expression of Interest (EOI)
BACKGROUND - West Darling Arts held the highly successful Gawler Laneway Arts & Music Festival (GLAMfest) at Easter 2023,which transformed a utilitarian laneway into an immersive outdoor gallery. Seven (7) visual artists and musicians partnered with Broken Hill heritage organisations to research and interpret our many histories through contemporary arts practice.We are seeking Expressions of Interest from Broken Hill and Silverton based artists and creatives to support the development of new works in response to Broken Hill’s heritage for presentation in 2024.The Heritage Residencies program aims to celebrate the many diverse stories of people and place that collectively form modern-day Broken Hill, sparking curiosity and holding a mirror to the whole of our city’s complex history.
ABOUT - Expressions of Interest are now open for our Broken Hill Heritage Residencies to support the development of new works in response to Broken Hill’s heritage. Seven artists will be invited to undertake a Residency with a Broken Hill heritage organisation, collection or site to undertake research within the collection/site and create new, site-specific work inspired by their research. Each residency will attract a $3,000 artist fee.Selected artists must complete their residencies by 31 December 2023 and present their artist concept to WDA by 31 January 2024. At this stage it is anticipated that the artworks will be presented as part of  in 2024. Artists who are interested in extending their practice to digital projection work are encouraged to apply. Participating artists will be supported in their residency through professional development opportunities, and access to experienced technical production crew.
WHO CAN APPLY?
The Residencies are open to artists who live and work in Broken Hill or Silverton. We welcome EOIs from visual artists, musicians, writers, creative teams/collaborators, and organisations. All art forms are accepted including video, light projection, sound, installation, performance, 2D media, original live music, and/or writing. Artworks must be suitable for temporary public display.

HOW TO APPLY - To apply send the following to projectofficer@westdarlingarts.com.au by 12-noon Monday July 3, 2023:
1. Artist CV and contact details (1 page)
2. Project Description: tell us your preferred partner heritage organisation/site, outline why you want tobe involved, and what you hope to achieve through the residency (max 2 page).
3. Support material (images, video, website)a. Up to 5 images of previous work, including a list of images (titles, materials, dimensions, andrelevance to project)b. AV materials should be provided in standard file format (JPG, MP4, etc)
4. PLI Certificate of Currency will be required for the Festival (PLI can be purchased through Regional ArtsNSW or NAVA if required)
Timeframe 5 June 2023 EOIs open
Monday 3 July 2023, 12noon EOIs close
21 July 2023 Artists Notified of Outcome
August 2023 Residencies negotiated
September – December 2023 Residencies occur
