Jason McCarthur - “The Art of Broken Hill: Traditional to Contemporary” group exhibition at Parliament House
I was born in Adelaide in 1972. I have always appreciated art but I didn’t start painting until around 2001. Pro Hart was a big inspiration to me and then I met Howard Steer and learned about Sam Byrne. I visited Sam Byrnes grave site and cleaned up his site and gained spiritual guidance from him.
As an artist, I love painting Greyhounds either in racing or retirement. I also enjoy painting the Philippines and telling stories from Greyhounds and the Philippines and their different lifestyles.
The Mundi Mundi Bash has also been a big inspiration. I love the whole concept and love painting the Bash and what happens with it. I have been a part of three art exhibitions at Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery, where the gallery has one of my paintings in their private collection. I have also had exhibitions in the Regional Art Gallery of Port Pirie, SA, Sandown Greyhound Racing Club, and Willyama Arts Society. The Broken Hill painting I have submitted for this exhibition has been exhibited in Poland with the Australia Naive Artists Group.
